 General Meeting: April 9, 2001   Eagles Lodge - 7:30pm

Apology: We offer an apology to Jim O'Brien for not allowing him to present his slides on his Africa hunt. The meeting was pre-empted with a program on Mission Ridge that went longer than anticipated. Notice Jim will be back for this meeting and make his presentation at that time.

Game Department Report: Bob Perleberg is feeling better and is back at work. Thanks to Jim Mares for filling in for Bob during his absence. Bob reports lowland lake fishing opens April 28th. New hunting pamphlets will be out May 1st and the current fishing pamphlet is good through April 30th, with the new pamphlets coming the last of April. Licenses and tags may be purchased by phone, internet or at the dealers. All special application permits must be purchased by toll free phone or by the internet. It has been advised to make applications long before the deadline. Contact Bob at 662-0452. Tom McCall will do a second pigmy rabbit count the second week of April. Contact Tom at 665-3391. Through the middle of March, Bob Perleberg has checked eleven hunted cougars of which 9 were toms and 2 were females.

Mission Ridge Discussion: Dennis Beich - Region 2 Director asked and was allowed time to give us the latest update in the issues between the department and Mission Ridge. With the United States Forest Service being the lead agency several reports were given followed by questions and answers. It was felt the dialogue went well, some enlightenment was made. One outstanding problem exists and that is the start up of the skiing season during the late elk hunting season. We wish to thank Dennis for putting together the parties involved.

Activities: We have several activities coming up before extreme fire season sets in that you can get involved in - if interested. Neil Fulwiler has an over-night spring project in the Lower Colockum. Pete Lopushinsky has a two crew, one day turkey feeder project in Stray and Tekison Canyons and a two crew, one day turkey feeder project in the Tarpiscan / Camel Field area. Marc Hallet has some turkey feeder projects in Swakane Canyon. Then there is the annual spring feeder checking projects on department land in the Chelan Butte area. We will have more definite information at the April meeting.

Upcoming Events: - The Mule Deer Foundation will have their banquet April 21st at the Chelan County Fairgrounds. Doors open at 4:00 pm. The contact person is Tracy Manning at 663-6343.
