General Meeting:  April 17, 2007- 7:00pm                Aluminum Union Hall  - 180 Rock Island Rd. – East Wenatchee

 

New Meeting Site:  The new meeting site is the Aluminum Hall at 180 Rock Island Rd. in East Wenatchee.  Located approximately 200 yards south of Grant Road.  The General Meeting is the 3rd Tuesday and Executive Board the 2nd Tuesday of the month.  Meeting times for both is 7:00pm

Upcoming Events:    Kids fishing days – April 21st, 9 – 12 noon at rock Island pit ponds. Free hot dogs, sodas and goody bags while they last.  Volunteers are needed and should bring pliers, sinkers and power bait.  Contact Dave Graybill at

fishboy@nwi.net or cell 668-3474.  Around June 1st another kids fishing day will be at the Leavenworth Fish Hatchery, June 2nd from 9 – 12 noon.  Each participant must pay $5.00 for which they’ll receive a rod, reel and “T” shirt.  Volunteers are needed.  This event will require the assembling of 500 rods, reels and line.  Many volunteers are needed to assemble them.  Contact person is Jim Hope 884-0930 or Ron Bruno 884-9369.

  The Entiat Fish Hatchery will be having their youth (12 and under) fishing day June 2nd starting at 8:00am.  They could use volunteers also.  Bring pliers and extra poles if you have any.  Contact Jeff Eaton who is a hatchery employee at

  The Mule Deer Foundation banquet will be held at the Chelan County Fairgrounds on April 21st.  Doors open at 3:30pm and dinner is at 5:30pm.  Tickets are on sale now at Hooked on Toys and One Shot, $55.00 single and $75.00 for couples.  Contact person is Mike Montgomery 665-0524 or Tom Gash 884-4984. The Northwest Big Game Animal Horn Show will be the feature attraction. 

  The RMEF (Colockum Chapter) will have their banquet at the Chelan County Fairgrounds May 19th.   For tickets contact Steve Adams at 662-6210 or Bob Perleberg at 663-7236.

Meetings Coming Up:  WDFW is developing a habitat conservation plan (HCP) for land management activities (recreation, operation, maintenance, enhancement and restoration) occurring on state-owned and managed wildlife areas.  There are six scheduled public meetings across the state to introduce the wildlife areas HCP.  One such meeting is scheduled for the Cashmere Community Center Tuesday, May 1st, 7 – 8:30 pm.  Another important meeting coming up April 26th at the Chelan County P.U.D. auditorium at 6:00pm is the 97A fencing issue.

Nominations:  Nominations for officers takes place in April with elections in May.  We encourage anyone interested in an officer’s position to let your thoughts be known.  New blood is always welcome.

Fishing Poles:  Amy Wickenhagan has been collecting donated fishing poles – as loaners – to be used at the Rock Island Pond on Kids Day.  Contact Amy at 662-0452 or drop them off during office hours.  Ron Bruno is also collecting them 884-9369. 

Department Report:  It’s time to renew licenses for fishing and hunting.  They can be purchased at retail dealers, internet or by phone, 1-866-246-9453.

  Hunting:  Spring turkey starts April 15 and runs through May 31st.  Check the rules pamphlet (http://wdfw.wa.gov/wlm/game/water/turkey/index.htm) for limitations.

  Spring black bear hunting also starts Apr. 15 and runs through May 31st for 225 hunters who drew special permits in eastern Washington game management units.

  All turkey and bear hunters must report their hunting activity either by telephone (1-877-945-3492) or on the internet at http://fishhunt.dfw.wa.gov/ 

  Highland lakes fishing opens April 28th.

  New fishing pamphlets should be out May 1st and hunting May 15th.  Special permits applications for deer, elk, goat, sheep, moose and early fall turkey will be accepted May 31 to June 28.  Application cost is $5.00.

  Hunter ed classes are being taught in June, July and August.  Contact Amy 662-0452 for time and locations.  Amy also has dates, times and locations posted on the office window. 

   April Program:  Jeff Tayer- Region 3 director will address the Colockum elk herd issues.  If you have questions or concerns come and share them at this time.  Let’s see what we can do as a club to help improve the Colockum herd.
