General Meeting:  April 15, 2008 - 7:00pm                                        Steel Workers Hall – 180 Rock Island RoadEast Wenatchee

My Sincere Apology:  As the typist and mailer of the newsletter I personally want to extend sincere apologies to Bob Morrison for listing him as Bill in the last newsletter.  Have no explanation Bob, one of those senior moments where I just screwed up and it had to be the man who was honored as the “2007 Sportsman of the Year”.  My deepest regrets Bob – Ike Cummings.

Upcoming Events:  Kids fishing days – April 19th, at the Rock Island pit ponds.  Volunteers are needed and should bring pliers, sinkers and power bait.  Contact Dave Graybill at fishboy@nwi.net or cell 668-3474.  Rods and reels in good condition will be used at this event and you can drop off tackle and any other donated item to support this at the WDFW office on Chelan Highway.  In early June another kids fishing day will be at the Leavenworth Fish Hatchery, more info later on.

On Thursday, April 10th there is an important meeting for those who have an interest in salmon and steelheading fishing.  Gary Loomis will be at the Douglas County PUD Auditorium to speak on the formation of a Northwest Chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association.  The meeting will start at 6:00 pm.

The Mule Deer Foundation banquet will be held at the Chelan County Fairgrounds on April 26th.  Doors open at 3:30pm and dinner is at 5:30pm.  Tickets are on sale now at Hooked on Toys and One Shot.  Contact person is Mike Montgomery 665-0524 or Tom Gash 884-4984.

The RMEF (Colockum Chapter) will have their banquet at the Chelan County Fairgrounds May 10th.  Contact person is Norm Gutzwiler and for tickets contact Holly and Jeff Berdan at 663-2419.  Doors open at 4:30 and dinner at 6:00pm.

CORT:  There will be other CORT classes coming up.  We wil keep you posted in the newsletter and through the Department Office – 662-0452.  You can also contact Ron Poppe at 662-3957.

Pickup Truck:  The club is considering either purchasing or receiving a donated pickup for field work.  The reason is some of the department roads are rocky and brushy.  Thus we don’t like to scratch or damage personal vehicles.  There are questions and concerns in doing so.  One of the major concerns is insurance.  It could cost between $1000 to $1500 for a one million dollar insurance plan for such a vehicle.  An insurance agent will be talking to the executive board in April and we want that individual to be at the general meeting to answer any of your questions.  Please come and ask those hard questions.

Nominations:  Nominations for officers takes place in the April meeting with elections in May.  We encourage anyone interested in an officer’s position to let your thoughts be known.  New blood is always welcome.

Liability Insurance:  The club is also looking into a total liability insurance policy costing about $1257 a year and also for liability insurance for the directors that would run about $700 a year.  Again your input is important.  Come and help us in discussing this information.

Department Report:  It’s time to renew licenses for fishing and hunting.  They can be purchased at retail dealers, internet or by phone, 1-866-246-9453.

Hunting:  Spring turkey starts April 15.

Special cougar permit applications will be available from August 4th to September 8th.

Spring black bear permit applications are available now through April 13th.

Special permit applications for deer, elk, goat, sheep, moose and fall turkey hunts will be available from April 16th to June 18th.

A reminder:  All “catch record cards” for salmon, sturgeon, steelhead, halibut and crab must be in by April 30th.

April Program:  Oops, we have a double this meeting,  the grizzly man will be our program as well as Jennifer Diaz from the Wild Horse Wind Project (Puget Sound Energy).

May Program:  At this point we do not have a program lined up, any suggestions would be helpful.
