CLEAN UP DAYThe Wenatchee Sportsman's Association is putting together a cleanup day in two areas. One area runs from Beehive Reservoir over to and including the Tarpiscan and up to and includes the Nanahum Ridge. For this area contacts are Pete Lopushinsky, 663-6260 and Matt Gutzwiler, 663-1526. The other area is the upper Blue Grade. Contact person is Ron Bruno, 884-9369. The Beehive / Tarpiscan meet at the Beehive Grange Hall and Blue Grade meets at the dumpster on Blue Grade road. Both at 9:00am, Saturday June 19. Pickups are needed and bring warm clothing, gloves, lunch, water and as many friends as you can get together. Refreshments will be provided.

Fishing Derby:: The 12th annual Pikeminnow fishing derby will be June 19th and 20th. Contact E. Wenatchee Rotary at (email) eastwenatcheerotaryclub@hotmail.com. Ticket locations are: Hooked on Toys, Bob Feil's Boats, Stan's and Bi Mart.

Late Thank You:We would like to extend a late thank you to Tom Gash and members of the local chapter of the Mule Deer Foundation who were instrumental in getting funding for the trees that were planted last month.

Game Meat:: We are always on the look out for donation of any wild game meat. Bear and cougar seasons start August 1st. We have coolers at Ron Bruno's (for the Wenatchee area), Neil Fulwiler (Colockum Pass area) and Keith Boyd (Cashmere area). Phone numbers are at the top of this newsletter.

Department Report:: Bob Perleberg reports the special permits are due June 20th which is a Sunday. They can be purchased only by phone or on the internet. The department can no longer sell licenses. Free fishing day for kids and adults is June 12th and 13th. Bear season starts August 1st.

Wanted:A few good volunteers - female and male. Some week-end work, any weekday, no Sundays. Some experience helpful but will train. No salary or fringe benefits. Free parking plus lots of off road, restricted area driving. Must be able to work as a team and show leadership qualities. This job has excellent potential advancement to leadership. Relief Needed:Matt Gutzwiler is looking for one or two people to take over one or both the game feed and clean-up day chairmanship. He has been doing the game feed job for 8 or 10 years and wants out before he burns out and leaves the club completely. If interested contact Matt at 663-1526.

Last Newsletter For The Year:This will be the last newsletter until September. The board wishes to thank the membership for all your help and support. Have a great summer and keep your eyes and ears open for speakers or other program materials for next year. Also, we are always open to suggestions and / or changes. Give a board member a call and share your thoughts. If you have something for the newsletter, Bill Stegeman needs it by the 20th of each month.

Director Needed:With regret the club accepted Mike McKee's resignation as a board director. We want Mike to know he did an exceptional job. We hope he will come often to our meetings. Requirement for the director position is to attend half of the meetings. Call Mike Sprague if you are interested, 782-5029.

WDFW Workshop:The next meeting will be August 6-7 in Everett. Tentative agenda is '04 and '05 waterfowl rules, '05 legislation, operating and capital budget and '04-'05 cougar removals (decision). The next workshop is Oct. 1-2 in Olympia and Nov. 5-6 in Wenatchee.

Raffle Permits:Refer to page 21 in our hunting pamphlet regarding raffle permit hunts for deer, elk, bighorn sheep, moose and mountain goat. Deadline is August 8, 2004. The best person to contact is Bob Perleberg for more info.

Youth Camp:Gordy Goodwin says there is space for more youths to attend summer camp on Orcas Island. Contact Gordy at 663-3620 if you know of anyone. Age range is 12 - 16.

Kids Fishing Days:Rick Graybill would like to thank the club for sponsoring the kids fishing days. Leavenworth Trout Unlimited reported having over 400 people total and gave out 115 goody bags during the Leavenworth kids fishing day.

Work Projects:Neil and Pete may have spring developments to do in the Colockum area. If interested contact Neil at 663-9076 or Pete at 663-6260. Also can get more info at our June meeting.

May Program Thank You's:The club wants to thank the following individuals who made our May programs a success. They are Peter Singleton - USFS, Marion Carey - DOT Biologist, Paul Fielder - PUD Biologist, Tom McCall - WDFW Biologist and Kerri Sullivan - Wenatchee Valley Transportation Council. A committee has been formed to further study the issues of road kills on highway 97-A.

June Program:Our June program will be discussing the clean up day. We need lots of help so bring a friend or two.

September Program:: We usually have Tom McCall or Beau Patterson provide us with fall and winter hunting prospects. In October, Joe Kelly will entertain us with an archery hunt he took in Africa.
