Meat Coolers:As we move into the cooler weather it stimulates our hunting desires to locate and bag big game animals. We again put out the request for donated wild game meat. Contact Ron Bruno at 884-9369 or 679-9076, Rick Isaacson at 888-2991. We also have coolers available with Neal Fulwiler 663-9076 and one at Keith Boyd's in the evenings
782-2512.
Meat Cutters:Ron Bruno is compiling a list of individuals he can call at a moments notice to handle donated game meat when he is unavailable. If you are interested in helping out contact Ron at 884-9369.
Freighted Game Meat:The club will pay the cost to have wild game meat freighted in on two conditions. 1) prior arrangements have been made to see if the meat is needed; and 2) we will pay the freight only on the needed amount of meat. Department Report:Tom McCall would like to thank those who helped with the cow elk parts collection project during the cow elk archery season.
Bob Perleberg reports there will be three pheasant releases starting opening weekend of pheasant season and ending around Thanksgiving time. The release site areas are the lower Colockum (Tarpiscan Rd.), Swakane Canyon and on Chelan Butte.
The 2002 Game Harvest Report is available on line - www.wa.gov/wdfw This site gets you into the website and click down to "Your Needs". A hard copy is available for $3.00 or you can get a "Big Game Summary" edition free at any Dept. Office. Bob says "this copy usually meets most folks needs".
Game Management Unit boundary changes: Swakane G.M.U. 250 is smaller, Mission G.M.U. 251 and Chewawa G.M.U. are larger and the Entiat G.M.U. 247 is a tiny bit larger. Stop by Bob's office and he'll show you the changes. Always check all hunting regulations before venturing out into the field. Always seek permission to hunt on private property and respect the private property when on it.
Fire Safety:As most of us are aware, we are still experiencing some extreme fire dangers in our outdoors. You are being asked to exercise extreme fire safety measures to eliminate any potential fire.
Reading Materials:Bob Perleberg has a large collection of reading materials in his office. One is a newsletter called "Washington Hunting News". A list of a few articles are, "It pays to report your hunting activity early", "Corrections to 2003-04 Hunting Pamphlet", "Four Point Doe", "Road closures on some WDFW owned forest lands", "Who Me?", and others. Bob invites you to stop by, visit and take home an item or two.
Work Party:Pete Lopushinsky has 3 work parties coming up. One project, Oct. 6th or 7th is to truck 20 tons of fertilizer up to the airstrip near the reserve. This will require 10 to 12 trucks plus Pete's truck and trailer. Pete will make available 2 or 3 department rigs for those who wish not to use their private rigs. Project two, Oct. 8th , drive into the reserve and clear meadows of undesirable growth. Loppers and chain saws will be needed. Project three, Oct. 28th or 29th there will be a boat ride from Crescent Bar down to Quilomene Bay, then 4 wheel and walk up the Brushy to repair a feeder. Two other projects will involve building a turkey feeder at Neil Fulwiler's place and bird feeders on the ranch off of the Navarre Coulee road. Gate Closure:The locked gate on the Tarpiscan Road is still locked and will probably remain locked throughout this hunting season. Efforts have been made to resolve the locked gate issue but to no avail.
Program:We want to thank Dale England (Chelan-Douglas County Drug Task Force) for his excellent presentation on meth labs - both manufacturing of and the illegal dumping of the labs. The bottom line, if you find one, leave it alone and contact either of the sheriffs departments.
October's guest speaker will be John Musser with the B.L.M. He will talk about a "hunter friendly" mapping project for Douglas County and the B.L.M. things. November meeting the speaker will be John Hunter, newly appointed WDFW Commissioner.
