General Meeting:  September 16, 2008   -  7:00pm                           Steel Workers Hall – 180 Rock Island Road – East Wenatchee

Welcome Sportsmen, To Another Year Of Outdoor Activities and Fellowship

A New Year Begins:  We hope you had a fun summer and are ready for another year of  enlightening and educational meetings.  With the membership’s guidance and help the Executive Board hopes to provide you with another great year. Important Meeting Information:  There will be a W.D.F.D. meeting here in Wenatchee on September 2, 2008  from 7:00 to 9:00pm,  concerning the next three-year hunting seasons (2009-2011).  The location will be at the Confluence Technology Center located  at  285 Technology Center Way located in the Olds Station area.  Feel  free to call one of the following for more information, Ron Bruno (884-9369), Ron Poppe (662-3957) or Bill Stegeman (H) 663-7529 or Cell 393-9528.

Freighted Meat:  On a prearranged approval, the Sportsman’s Association will purchase exotic wild game meat from an individual.  This has been done on game meat flown in from a distant place.  We pay the freight only on the amount of meat needed, which is usually around 40 to 60 lbs.

Early Call For Game Meat:  Ron Bruno, as always, is looking for wild game meat.  There are coolers at Neil Fulwiler (663-9076) and Ron Bruno (884-9369) as well as at George Komro, located at 1570 Tedford (884-5359).  Ron has also made arrangements with Fred Perry of Eastmont Custom Meats to receive donated and / or emergency wild game meat that is locker ready (skinned and clean).  You can contact Fred at 884-3777.

Special Thank You:  A special thanks goes out to the members who volunteered at the Leavenworth Fish Hatchery “Kids Fishing Day”.  When things got a little slow there was excitement as the W.D.F.W. Enforcement had to resolve a fishing pole issue between two adults.  Maybe someone wants to speak on this at the next meeting.

Archery Program:  Wenatchee School District will be starting an archery program at Pioneer Middle School.  The Brady Hargrove family worked hard getting the programs started, along with additional funding from our club.  We are financially helping Pioneer and Clovis Point Middle School in East Wenatchee with their archery programs.

Department Report:  The 2008 state-wide duck hunting season will be open from Oct. 11 – 15 and Oct. 18 to January 25.

Special youth hunting weekend will be Sept. 20- 21.

Goose hunting season varies by management areas across the state – but most open Oct. 11 and run into January.  Always seek permission to hunt on private property and always respect private property.

Be extra careful with campfires and know where that catalytic burner is in regards to grass and weeds underneath your vehicle.  Always read the fishing and hunting pamphlets for regulations and dates.

Work Parties:  Art Viola’s work parties have been put on the back burner due to the salmon runs in the Wenatchee River.  He’ll contact us if and when things settle down.  We have a couple projects on hold until the weather cools down and gets a little damper.  One project is the continued brushing of roads on the Butte.  Second is a feeder to be built on the Roundy Ranch and there is the annual feeder fillings for Marc and Pete.

Logging Volunteer Hours:  Remember to log your volunteer hours, keeping club hours separate from Department hours.  They can be any kind of work related to the club or volunteering for the Department.

C.O.R.T. Class:  Ron Poppe reports there will be a C.O.R.T. class September 17th , 7:00pm at the Steel Workers Hall, 180 Rock Island Road in East Wenatchee.  If you have questions contact Ron at (662-3957).

September Program:  Either Dave Valeson or Jon Gullie will update us on the fall hunting prospects.

Future Programs:  If you have any thoughts on potential programs, please call Ron Bruno (884-9369) or Bill Stegeman

(663-7529) and give them your thoughts.

Address Changes or Corrections:  If you or someone you know has address changes or is not getting the newsletter please give Ike a call at 886-0894 or email him at:  ike@televar.com  so changes can be made for the coming year.  Thanks.

Please come, enjoy and share in the meetings  and refreshments
