Welcome Sportsmen, To Another Year Of Outdoor Activities and Fellowship

A New Year Begins:  We hope you had a fun summer and are ready for another year of  informational and educational meetings.  There has been a staff change in our Department Office.  Beau Patterson and Tom McCall resigned in July.  Beau will be employed by Douglas County PUD and Tom took a similar job in Flagstaff, AZ.  Joe Paschall retired in July also.  Our interim Biologist will be Jeff Heinlen (663-7964) from the Okanogan office.  We wish the best to the three of you and your new adventures.

Reminder of Meeting Place &Time:  We will still be meeting at the Steel Workers Hall at 180 Rock Island Road.  Meeting time is 7:00pm with the Board meeting the 2nd Tuesday and General meeting the 3rd Tuesday of each month.

Freighted Meat:  On a prearranged approval, the Sportsman’s Association will purchase exotic wild game meat from an individual.  This has been done on game meat flown in from a distant place.  We pay the freight only on the amount of meat needed, which is usually around 40 to 60 lbs.

Meeting Dates:  Mark your calendar for the following meeting dates:  Sept. 18,  Oct. 16,  Nov. 20,  Dec. 18,  Jan. 22,

Feb.11,  Mar. 18,  Apr. 15,  May 20 & June 17.

Early Call For Game Meat:  Ron Bruno, as always, is looking for wild game meat.  There are coolers at Neil Fulwiler (663-9076) and Ron Bruno (884-9369) as well as at George Komro, located at 1570 Tedford (884-5359).  Ron has also made arrangements with Fred Perry of Eastmont Custom Meats to receive donated and / or emergency wild game meat that is locker ready (skinned and clean).  You can contact Fred at 884-3777.

Web Page:  Our web page is still functioning well.  To log on, type in   www.ncwoutdoors.com and click down to our club information.  Ron Bruno welcomes any outdoor activity information for the web page.

Department Report:  Amy reports water fowl and upland game season pamphlets will be out the last week of August.  Forest grouse opens September 1.  “Youth only” hunt for quail and pheasant opens September 22-23.

Fish and Wildlife Commission is considering a new WAC code titled, Land Use Rule.  The rule proposal addresses issues like camping, parking, shooting, pets, commercial activity and etc.  Considered approval is planned at its Oct. 12-13 meeting in Olympia.

Enough cannot be said on how serious the fire danger is.  You are being asked again to be extremely careful when out in the woods.  Always visualize where your catalytic burner is when parking in the outdoors and also, be careful with campfires.

Chinook salmon fishing on the upper Columbia River runs through October 15.

High buck hunts for deer starts September 15th.  Check with forest service for possible road closure due to forest fires.

Game Feed Help Needed:  Our game feed committee is looking for one or two individuals who are willing to help solicit donations for our February 11, 2008 game feed.  If interested contact Gene Robards at 662-6277.
